I tried that one my Apple 2e sort of. Had two screens with squares on them and
put a different colour in the same place on the other screen and flicked
between them at 25hz. Yuck. I don't think the colours are close enough. This
idea is used on the atari though I think. The ordinary ST which in theory have
only a 512 colour pallete have programs which claim to display pictures in 4096
colour and STe claim to display in 16384 colours or something. I can't remember
the details but I think they probably use something like you describe. It would
be alot easier to do of course if the GS had pageflipping but thats life... :-)
