List of copyrighted freeware

I would like to see an on-going list of commercial software titles that
have been released by the copyright holder as freeware.  Such a list
of Apple II software might include title, status (freeware or public
domain), and ftp site(s).  Applewriter is one such product that comes
to mind and I am sure there will be more if people who own the rights to
useful software that is no longer being sold can be contacted with such
a request.  I guess FutureVision and the Beagle Brothers titles are also
candidates for this list.  Products that may be useful to public schools
would be particularly helpful as there are still great numbers of Apple IIs
at work in schools that can't afford to change to IBM and are limited in
how much commercial educational software they can purchase.
 
1. Does such an index already exist somewhere?
 
2. Do you agree this is needed on here?
