Yep, preemptive in nature (_there_, I said it _for_ you, JB :)

Apparently so, although I usually hear about zmodem. I haven't actually
done it.

bazyar@cs.uiuc.edu <-- Jawaid Bazyar of Procyon; author of the kernel
I find the biggest bonus is not actually running big programs in the
background (since the CPU takes performance hits) but rather:
1. Relative ease of porting unix programs, and the ability to use
processes when writing your own, and
2. When executing a command from the shell that might take 45-60 seconds
(egrep/fgrep comes immediately to mind), I can background it and carry
on doing something else.
3. If I had a modem that liked sz/rz and Telcom, I think I would use
Gno for background file transfers, but I have an internal AE 2400
and the current versions of Telcom and sz/rz don't like internals :(
This is also (apparently) being fixed.
The console I/O has a problem right now (redirecting to files doesn't always
work) but I hear that is fixed in v1.1, which should be released pretty
soon (it's in beta-testing).
All in all, I find it one of my favorite purchases over the past few years.
Disclaimer: I am in no way connected with Procyon, I just like Gno!
