Richard Wifall has; its called DeskTracker.  You can easily access DT from your
own programs by sending SendRequest(FinderSaysBeforeOpen) to play a song and
SendRequest(FinderSaysKeyPress,OA-Space) to stop a song.  If the Munger
requires the Heirarchic init, why can't you require DT?  DT is smaller and
doesn't do nasty things to the innards of your tools and is made with 100%
natural ingredients.

Note that Rich will probably expect a shareware payment if you do this. :)
