I wasn't willing to deal with the long lines, so I'm not quoting.

SynthLab isn't intended to be user-friendly.  It's not even really
intended to be really useful.  It was originally designed as a test
platform for the MIDIsynth toolset, and to give developers something to
use until they (the developers) had written their own utilities.  Well,
there still aren't any other MIDIsynth editors -- somebody should write
one.
