My daughters, ages 9 and 7, have an Apple ][c at their mother's
house. I've just bought a new modem for my PC and would like to give
them the old one to install in their ][c. It's an ATI 2400etc/i
internal modem with V.42bis and MNP5 data compression and V.42 error
control. I know nothing about Apples and, because I don't have
access to theirs, I have no way of even looking at one to compare its
expansion slots with those of an IBM-compatible PC.
So my question is simply this: will this modem `fit'? If so, are
there any special instructions I should send home with my kids to
help whomever does the work to get it properly installed and
configured? (Unfortunately, I don't know if they have any of the
computer's original manuals.)
I played _The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy_ on this same Apple
][c at least 7 or 8 years ago when it still belonged to my kids'
maternal grandparents. All I remember about it is that it had a
monochrome monitor, no graphics capability, and no hard drive. And
it was fun!
Assuming they're able to get my old modem installed in their ][c,
they will, of course, need a good telecommunications program. The
most important requirements are that it have complete and accurate
VT100 (or higher) terminal emulation and that it be simple enough for
my young daughters to learn to use. And it must be small enough to
run off a 5.25" diskette. Can anyone recommend a good shareware
terminal program for the Apple ][c?
Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
