Does it eject disks under software control (e.g. by dragging a disk
into the Trash in Finder)?  If so, it may be a loose or broken wire in
the eject button circuit, which should be easy enough to identify by
removing the outer case of the drive and testing the cable.

If software eject doesn't work either, the problem is more serious.
