  You have to write it in assembly language; BASIC is just too slow to deal
with it.  What you _could_ do is write an assembly driver that talks to 
BASIC; but you'd be much much better off doing this under GS/OS (or, say,
GNO :) and using C/high speed asm drivers for the task.
  Programming the SCC8530 is a nightmare.  Sorta.
