My monitor is dying

Anyone out there have any recommendations on the course of action to
take when your Apple brand monitor (the GS RGB one) starts to vary its
brightness?

(I've been awake too long, working on too many different things.  Let
me try that again.)

My monitor has a brightness problem.  I have the brightness turned up
all the way, and I can see it flicker (get brighter/darker) most of
the times I'm using it.  I first noticed this in OOTW, when I couldn't
see the backgrounds because the colors were so dim!

So, do I keep using it until it dies, or is there a suggested remedy?
