Nope, no modifications. The Pegasus is a combination powersupply/harddrive
combo, and you can buy it without the HD as what Econ calls a kit. In this
kit you have two options, buying the kit w/o a fan for $179 and $189 w/ a fan.
With a HD, prices go up from $200+.
If you happen to want to plug a hd into the kit, plug in a 3.5" drive.
Make sure it's a low profile 3.5" drive as that's the only size that'll fit.
BTW, 3.5" drives can be got anywhere, but it's a lot cheaper if you shop
around in Mac magazines like MacWorld or MacWeek (ewww...more like MacWhirled
and MacWeak...;) It's seems these venders don't mind selling things for a
lot less to mac people than apple II, so why not take advantage of them.
To be more technical, think of your stock IIgs power supply a 1/4 wider.
Vent slots are on top in the back. The actual power supply circuits and stuff
are compressed into the back 1/2 to 1/3 of the case and the rest of the room
is for a HD and support circuitry. A fan is mounted under the case up front,
right over the speaker and vgc (oooo....neat ripples on the screen). Actually
the fan is brushless so it doesn't cause em interference and it's pretty quiet.
You only hear the fan if the room is real quiet and I only notice very faint
(interference?) ripples running on the screen, but look at the screen out of
the side of my eyes...(grin)
happy hunting,
Joseph
