I've always considered Shareware/Freeware authors to be eligible for sainthood.
The amount of work as compared to any possible payback is so great that they
must be doing it for a greater reason. I really try to send a note and $20.00
to the author of any freeware that I regularly use. In the case of shareware
$20 is a minimum of course, since the author may be (justifiably) asking more.
I don't think of the $20 as real compensation. That's not a lot of money. But,
writing a check shows appreciation, at least I hope it does.
Bob, who's unsuccessfully tried to write software for enough years to appreciate
those who do.
