Shrinkit and Freeware in general
Although I've been a devoted //c user for about seven years I've never
used Shrink-it in the past. I recently bought a hard drive and gave the
program a try. This is an amazing program! It's not just its archiving
work that's great but it's rapidly replacing Copy2+ for most of my file
management. The interface is much better. In fact, if it handled copying
of subdirectories better I'd do away with Copy2+ altogether.
I own tons of Apple ][ software. While I haven't bought everthing ever
released for the 8 bit machine I've tried :-). Still, my best and most
used software tends to be the freeware. Kermit literally changed my life.
It allowed me to take some computer classes while working full time. With
Kermit I did my Cobol programming in Appleworks and xfered the finished
code in the mornings when the mainframe was not so busy. One thing led to
another, including becoming President of a Users Group and thus meeting
the Chairperson of a department at the University. I changed jobs with
his help. I went from a depressing job at the phone company to a great
one at the University (from riding around in a grey truck to having my
own office and department). Anyway, I wouldn't have gotten it without
my //C and Kermit.
I own dozens of games but find myself playing Defenders and ST:FC the most
often.
There are a *lot* of great programmers and programs in the // world. I'll
keep using my //c until the Rocketchip blows up, and then move up to a
GS with the fastest accellerator available.
Anyway, to the Authors of Davex, Kermit, Shrink-it, etc.,an extremely
sincere thank you.
