|
| I don't believe such a driver exists. When I was at KansasFest last year,
| the subject of Profile's (but not drivers) came up. Apple's reaction was
| more along the line of being proud that they still supported the Profile
| at all, rather than the likelihood of spending any resources on it!
|

Shame it would be nice to have one.

| very slow 5.25" drives I have. I may also then go out and buy a
| SuperDrive,
| if the RAM disk is still accessable from ProDOS 8. Is it true that this
| driver will be included in System 6.0.1?
|
| I'm not too sure about a driver in System 6.0.1, but it wasn't mentioned
| at K/Fest last year. The only other /RAM5 drivers I am aware of were third
| party products. BTW, if you get a SuperDrive (and controller), then you
| lose /RAM5 because you have switched out the slot 5 ROM - which contains
| the /RAM5 support code. You win some, you lose some. I use an Apple II
| Memory Expansion card for a RAM disk, so it's not a problem for me - the
| driver came with system 6.0 :-)
|

What third party products? Where and How much also rush off my tongue.
I was aware about the SmartPort ROM been switched out, but I had heard that
a driver could still access that from GS/OS, and possibly ProDOS 8
Unless such a driver appears I will probaly put a SuperDrive in Slot 2.

| As an aside, how often do you _use_ the 5.25" drives? I have mine switched
| out in the control panel to avoid having them polled, and switch them in
| if I need them. I can also boot from them without mucking around in the
| Control Panel by holding down the Open-Apple and Control keys (courtesy of
| QuickBoot).

I personally use ProBoot. I use the 5.25" drives reguarly, due to the large
amount of work required with them as Apple // PD Disk Librarian for AUSOM.
I keep them switched in under GS/OS because I prefer ProSel-16's Utilities
for copying files, Info Desk and Disk Optimization, but if worst came to
worst I could go back to ProSel-8's Cat Doctor, Info Desk and Beach Comber.
as for doing anything with DOS 3.3 stuff I need to use Copy II Plus anyhow.
