Re: CD ROM Ues on Apple IIgs [R(82)]
I don't know about the Apple HS SCSI card. It requires drivers for CD-ROMs.
The only one that came with System 6 can only drive Apple ones ( and only
the older CD SCs I think. Drives from other vendors, such as NEC, Toshiba,
Texan... etc. all need drivers which I don't think there are any.
This is another area RamFAST shines, supposely it can work with all SCSI CD-ROM
drivers ( I have a NEC CDR-36 right now ).
As for CD-ROM titles, there where only one Apple ][ specific title I think.
Great Efforst of Many ( GEM ) released in 1990 or so. It contained sharewares,
freewares, and demos. Which I think are probably all outdated by now.
I use mine to read develop CDs ( through HFS.FST ), and you should be able
to buy those Mac GIF or font CDs are read them ( I haven't tried this ). When
ms.dos.FST comes out, you should be able to read IBM/PC clone CDs as well.
Althought you probably can't get much from it...
Maybe GNO/ME v1.1/v2.0 should come out on CD? So we can all go out and buy
a CD-ROM drive and have use for it. :P
Oh yeah, System 6 came out on CD...
