I have one of those dinosaurs too. Their real name is Apple Color Monitor 100.
It's a digital RGB. I've been told that there's a switch inside that switches
it from digital to analog. Sure enough, I found a large switch on the circuit
board when I had to take it apart to fix the screen tilter. (The monitor's
screen tilts up and down and there's an electric motor that tilts it. Real
cool I think.) I didn't flip the switch and try it with my IIgs though. I
use it with my //e and have a normal IIgs monitor for the IIgs so I don't 
plan to.
You gotta wonder how many of these things Apple sold when they wanted $600
for the monitor and $300 for the RGB interface for the //e. I got mine at
a computer store's going out of business sale and still paid plenty.
