Re: Whatever happened to...
[Sorry if this question has already been answered - my site is
suffering from a five day backlog of news at the moment.]

As explained in my previous posting, ProDOS has no equivalent command,
because it allocates memory as needed.
Here are some things you should check:
1. Are you trying to BLOAD anything into high memory areas? If you
try to BLOAD a file that overlaps with BASIC.SYSTEM or a file buffer,
you'll get a NO BUFFERS AVAILABLE error. Most high memory binary
programs from DOS 3.3 will not work under ProDOS without modification.
Similary, any PEEKs, POKEs or CALLs that access parts of DOS 3.3 will
no longer work under ProDOS (the only DOS 3.3 entry point that ProDOS
supports is $03D0 - the warm re-entry point for BASIC after using the
monitor).
2. Are you changing HIMEM? If so, don't. If you need to protect part
of the computer's memory from BASIC's variables, try changing LOMEM
instead, and putting the data below that. If you really have to change
HIMEM, make sure you set it to a multiple of 256, and don't set it any
higher than it is already.
Also note that if you move HIMEM down and put any data above it,
BASIC.SYSTEM might move it in order to allocate a file buffer (not sure
about this).
3. Are you running out of memory? What does PRINT FRE(0) say?
4. Are you forgetting to close files? This is unlikely - you say your
program is only dealing with two text files.
