It sounds like the drive got dropped, or thumped around, and now there is
something loose inside that is shorting something. It's hard to tell
without opening up the drive, though. I would send it back to AE, cause
these drives can be a major pain in the ass to fix, and you don't want to
hurt it anymore than has already been done.
