I have no clue, but the method of accessing them is a bit
lame. I couldn't get the softswitches to work by loading long, I had
to be in bank e1 to make it work.

They did sell a non-dma 7 mhz version of the zip chip, which
was only a chip. I don't think it was that popular as it wasn't
"upgradable".

Yeah, the TWGS was done right. There are TWGS ID bytes
somewhere in memory (I forget where). And there are a bunch of
firmware calls, to shut the TWGS off, etc. The rom is also the reason
why the control panel is always installed.
