Odd Hardware Question

I've found that my Zip accelerator's "dummy processor" with the cable
attatching it to the card is splitting at the cable seams..

I.e.      _____
         |     |
         XoooooX       <- the top is severing here at one end
         |_____|
         X     X

This seems to be affecting the computer's functionality as it will
occasionally randomly crash unless I continue to reseat the top onto the
bottom..

Ok, here's the dummy question of the day:) : Can I just take simple electrical
tape and tape the bottom to the top at the edge of the chip to avoid the
problem of the top loosening? 

Or would I end up frying my whole system? :)
