Floptical drives

I've been following MAC magazines more than Apple II, but this info
on the MAC flavor of the Floptical drive would probably apply to the
II drive as well:
The review in Mac-User (?) commented that the Floptical had some
problems reading lower density (1.4M, 800K, 400K) that had not
been originally formatted on the Floptical. It sounds like you
can format disks on the Floptical and have them readable by both
the Floptical and the "regular" drive, but not necessarily the other
way round.
This would be particularly pertinent if you are replacing a
broken "regular" drive with a Floptical. You might have trouble
reading existing disks. _Might_. You might not. The problem
was not stated as being there all the time. A Floptical as a
second drive (my intentions, eventually) might be safer than a Floptical
as the _only_ drive.
