How old is your //c? I know quite a few people with //cs which are about 1984-5
vintage whose motherboards have had to be replaced, all within the last 12-18
months. It had something to do with an auxillary RAM chip on the motherboard
breaking down, as I remember. Whatever it was, it was the same fault in every 
case.

I am not suggesting that this is necessarily the case with your machine, but it
might be worth getting it checked out. Maybe it's just a disk drive speed 
adjustment that's needed.

The best collection of diagnostic and repair software I know of is in Glen
Bredon's ProSel package. You might also want to check out RepairWorks from 
Quality Computers. I have had brilliant results with this program and have 
recovered irreplaceable data from damaged disks a number of times. It only works
with AppleWorks WP and DB files, though.
