bashing. I have read comments which question Mac owners intelligence as
well as the merit of any Macintosh product. Get real, Mac owners didn't
Well I am not sure of others, but as User Assistant here in a lab full
of Macs (and PCs) I would say CURRENTLY, that the AVERAGE Mac user is
less computer literate than the AVERAGE II user. Why? it's simple- the
Mac was targeted for the "rest of us" (a shameless advocacy for
mediocrity I think) Those of us who still use II's use it only because
we love it and know almost everything there is to know about it.
This is not to say that MAc PROGRAMMERS are dumb-obviously they are not-
and this is not to say EVERYONE should dump their macs and get a II.
But the fact DOES remain that the average user knows less about computers,
and more importanty, doesnt want to learn more.
As for Mac products, again, I dislike its closed hardware/software
philosophy. Some person mentioned how much better PC's are to Macs,
and I agree. for $2000 you can get a top of the line clone. What kind
of Mac system can you get for $2000? Instead of offering a choice
between a CLI and GUI like the II and PC do, you are restricted to the
GUI in a Mac. Also, it's one thing to have a lot of companies making
clones, but I think its positively ridiculous to have ONE company
produce so many varieties of the same basic machine. (Lemme see if I
get all this: the Mac Classic oops didnt Apple DISCONTINUE that
already? Classic II, IIci, IIvx,Quadra (two types), Powerbook (three
types? one which has already been DISCONTINUED after a few months)
Performa) This list doesnt even include the SE/30, IIcx, IIx,etc etc.
Granted some of these are no longer being made, but the list of
current computers that are being sold is staggering. Granted also
that they are "targetted" at different audiences, from the Very Very
Rich , Very Rich, all the way down to just plain Rich. What does
Apple think of the Mac? A disposable computer?
cause this problem, Apple did. I love my Apple //e, but does that mean I
should burn my Mac in support of project Apple Storm? Focus on the real
enemy guys!
Well, Apple neglected the II because it wanted to cater to Mac users.
Now wouldnt they be considered the "enemy" as well? I myself dont
"hate" mac owners, but I do look down on them. But that's my own bias,
engendered from my own background in technical matters.
