Part of the reason there are more applications for the PC is because it came
out several years before the first Ma.  Plus the first macs weren't all that
hot either.

I personally own a IIGS, and Mac II, a 386sx, and even a couple of Apple III
systems (!).  I still love my IIGS more than any of the others, but there is
nothing wrong with my mac either (I'll probably like it more when I really get
into programming it :).  Mac-bashing is childish IMHO; it's just a way for a
bunch of people to vent anger at Apple Computer, Inc.

Who cares if a machine discontinued?  Your IIGS is discontinued as of Dec 14th
you know.  A typical Mac life cycle is 6 months.  Computer technology advances
rapidly and customers want the top of the line technology NOW.  This translates
into constant upgrades to a company's product line (ie, new Macs).  If the old
ones didn't get axed, the product line would be unfathomably huge.

As to customer support, IBM ain't all that much better, especially when it
comes to their corporate accounts ("we're sorry, but that was our standarsix
[standard] six months ago; you need all new equipment now!").  Furthermore,
MS-DOS software developers are more than happy to write software that only
runs on high-end machines (game companies are really bad : 386 or higher?
Sheesh!).  If you bought a 286 in the past few years, you're virtually screwed
nowadays.  I don't see any big plan from IBM or anyone else to those people, do
you?

And yes, I know "MS-DOS 5.0 runs on even a PCjr".  But hell, even my "little"
GS can access more than 640k without resorting to stupid tricks and $70
memory managers (DOS's EMM386.EXE ain't all that hot, you need QEMM).
