QWK is a format used by FIDOnet systems that allows you to pack up their
messages into a single file, download it to your local system, generate
replies while off-line, and upload those replies.  This can be *really*
handy for those who still frequent FIDOnet systems and spend hours of
time reading/replying-to messages there.  And it can take a couple of
hours to do that since the mac and apple2 echos (as they are called)
typically have over 100 messages each day.
