HELP! APPLE Joystick pin layout and ...

Hi! there,

I have an Apple joystick (the plate says: Apple IIe, IIc Model No
A2M2002...) and I'd like to connect it to my PC clone. I'v known the pin
layout of PC's game port and I'v figuered out the connections of X-Y
position controller. But I'm having a hard time in understanding the
connections of the fire buttons. Each button looks like this *** no matter
it is pressed or not ***:

                    bottun PIN
another button -----1--------2----------------------------o 2 (5V DC?)

                    3--------4----------------------------o 1 or 7
                    |
                    |----------------^^^^^^----------------o 3 (GND?)
                                      270 Ohm

There is no ON/OFF response (as checked with an Ohmmter) when I
press/release the button. I wonder if the buttons need power-on to
function or both the buttons are bad?

A joystick is nothing but I am just curious and eager to know. Can someone
help me by e-mailing me a circuit diagram or telling me how do they work?

Thanks in advance!

PS: I don't know if Mac uses the same joystick and that's why I posted on
Mac groups. forgive me if I was wrong.
