System 6 Finder patch?

A while ago I downloaded a finder patch from one of the ftp sites.
Unfortunately, this apparently works only with the old finder.  Does
anyone know of a patch for the new finder?  In particular, I'm 
looking for the feature that will allow me to change the shutdown
default from "shut down system" to "return to previous application".
I guess I could write this myself, but why reinvent the wheel if its
already been done?
