Re: Old ][e having trouble cold booting

I had some trouble with an old ][+. The power supply was from Apple,
but the motherboard had been replaced (I bought it 2nd hand) with
some clone having 64K DRAM's and on-board Z80. This does not consume
enough power!
In fact, it does not draw enough current from +12V or -5V (I didn't
check exactly). As the original power supply has only one control
circuit, these tend to go up to levels where the overvoltage
protection circuit will shut down the supply and restart (see Apple
manual).
The solution is to draw some current from these supply rails. In my
case, 150 ohms from each to ground (= 80 mA for +-12V, 33mA for -5V)
was just enough.
(My configuration: Epson parallel printer card, Apple Super Serial
card, Videx 80 coloumn card, Eprommer - don't remember brand, two
disk ][ controllers, two disk ][ single drives, two compatible
drives, external Rafi keyboard, Apple power supply.)

Maybe you should try this before buying a new power supply.
