I believe that the old joysticks used something odd, like the joystick
buttons, to give digital response from the joystick (I don't know that for
certain, though)
That's why I think that it does it.

as for the other thing...I thought of that a while ago, but I don't ever
recall something that would do that... (I haven't been in the II community
as long as some, but I have been interested in Apple IIs since about, well,
4th or 5th grade????? (didn't get one until 7th...)
