But that's an interesting point.  If the author of a shareware product
you've picked up recently has disappeared and you can't find him, can you
still continue (legally) to use the software?  Since you haven't been able
to pay for it, you're legally bound to destroy your copy after the
examination period ends.

So what do you do?
