Ethanol is possibly the most effective.  I recommend going to a liquor
store and buying a bottle of Everclear.  It's the same as denatured
alcohol, only without the bittering agent that stays as a residue.
Works well as a disinfectant as well, and very effective for cleaning
tape heads.  Not to mention when you're all done cleaning with it, you
can drink the rest.
