Re: Sweet16 Slowdown..

Andrew:

When OS X 10.4 (Tiger) arrived, I had the same problem when running Classic
under OS X with a single processor PPC. It tied up too much of the CPU, and
didn't allow other _important_ processes time to breath. Hence, things
sputtered.

The solution, I found, was to 'renice' Classic (actually the
TruBlueEnvironment) and my problems 'all went away'.

I was about to post an AppleScript to help out those of us who still run
Bernie under Classic (Sheppy is making Sweet16 feature equal as time
permits).

Here is that same AppleScript modified so it renices Sweet16. First start up
Sweet16, then run the script and let us know your results.

APPLESCRIPT BEGIN

set Sweet16PID to do shell script "ps -axww | grep '[/]Sweet16'| awk '{print
$1}'"

do shell script "sudo renice 20 -p " & Sweet16PID password "YOURPASSWORD"
with administrator privileges

APPLESCRIPT END

If you feel like getting 'geeky', check out the Unix 'renice' command, which
is responsible for all of this.

Oh, this is not an original idea. I stole it from another internet guy. It
works _wonders_ on Classic on a single CPU PPC machine. (Hint, change the
(3) instances of 'Sweet16' above to 'TruBlueEnvironment').

AND, "YOURPASSWORD" above needs to be _your_ password, in quotes.
