Denatured alcohol is simply ethanol that for some reason can't be
consumed. I haven't had good luck using this as a cleaning solvent in
general. Isopropyl alcohol is a common solvent used to clean PCBs
(however, much more complicated formulas are used at the factory).

You'll probably find that the toothbrush, dry, will remove most of the
dust and grime. Relatively little solvent is required. Hardware that
has been in a smokers' house is a special case, though.

These solvents will ALSO remove Magic Marker writing - serial numbers,
version numbers, etc - so beware!
