Also, if I connect *both* the hard drive and the flash drive, I can boot the hard drive in that configuration as well. BTW, the device is an Adtron Accent-SPC card reader: http://www.adtron.com/pdf/ASPC-usersmanual.pdf It's technically SCSI-2 but from understanding that should not matter?
As per the card reader manual, a boot drive should be SCSI-'0', and if it hangs, check the SCSI-ID and termination settings.
