There's 7-1/2" between the metal ends of the bay.  There's 7-3/32"
from the back of the connector to the front of the bay.

The MS Softcard, probably the biggest form factor you could have,
measures 7-1/2" long and 4-1/4" high.  There's 7-1/16" from the back
of the card fingers to the front of the card.

I was hoping to find physical characteristics in the Device Writer's
Guide, but there's only the electrical characteristics listed.  Apple
asks you to use the prototyping card for initial development. :-)
