KANSAS CITY, MO -- April 21, 2009 -- KansasFest, the 20th annual
convention dedicated to the Apple II computer, is now open for
registration. The conference will be held at Rockhurst University in
Kansas City, Missouri, from Tuesday, July 21st, 2009, through Sunday
the 26th. The keynote speaker will be Jason Scott, webmaster of
TEXTFILES.COM, director of "BBS: The Documentary", and caretaker of
Sockington, the first cat on Twitter to have over 300,000 followers.
Scott will kick off an event that includes five nights of sessions,
contests, great stories, tips and tricks, fun and games, and things
that "just can't be done on an Apple II." This year's schedule
includes the following highlights:
-- A workshop to build your own Apple-1 clone, by Vince Briel
-- The debut of the Apple iPhone 3.0, hosted by Rob Walch of the Today
in iPhone podcast
-- HackFest, an annual programming challenge open to hackers of all
skill levels
-- Apple II gaming on your Mac: looking to relive your high scores?
Learn what Mac games are inspired by Apple II classics!
What the schedule can't predict is the variety of surprise
demonstrations that are a hallmark of KansasFest. Past years have
seen the introduction of the LANceGS Ethernet card, the Marinetti TCP/
IP stack, and other major announcements in the Apple II world.
Attendees are encouraged to share their knowledge by presenting their
own sessions, be it hardware, software, Apple II, or Macintosh.
Register before May 31st to secure your place at this memorable
event! Prices until that date are $345 for a double room or $410 for
a single. Both prices include admission to all sessions as well as
room and board. Official KansasFest shirts and the Apple-1 workshop
are extra and optional. To register, please visit the official Web
site at http://www.kansasfest.org/
KansasFest 2009, the world's only annual Apple II conference, invites
any and all Apple II and Macintosh users, fans, and friends to attend
this year's "summer camp for geeks." For photos, schedules,
presentations from past year's events, and inquiries, please visit the
event's Web site.
