Re: Locksmith 6.0 on IIgs

The 'prototype' version is not in the wild on any boards that were
installed through the retail channel.

There are different combinations of IC's install on the boards. Some
have two EPROMs, some have a mask ROM and EPROM, but the contents are
100% the same.

There for the likeliness of anyone having anything different is..
Hen's teeth might be a bit more rare.

If you turn on your IIgs and it doesn't say "Apple IIgs" at the top,
it's not a retail, release, production version.

If it says 'TENSPEED', it's a ROM 3 from May of '89 instead of
September. That was the widely speculated release of the next IIgs
that didn't happen at that Spring AppleFest.

How to tell if you have a prototype or seeded ROM 3: Look at the
speaker connector. If it's in the same place as the ROM 1, it's
production. If it's about 2 inches inward from the right edge where it
says "SPEAKER" on the board, it's not production.

The latter board has an issue with DMA. The TransWarp IIgs and the
RAMFast will clash and a non-recoverable error will happen at power
up.

As to why the speaker connector got moved back, probably due to lots
of installed boards, docs, cable legths, etc.
