If it is the same as the Monitor IIc - and since the owner's manual is
the same, I'm gonna guess the only differences are cosmetic - then the
disassembly process is:
- place monitor face-down on towel
- remove 2 screws at top edge of screen area (on back)
- remove 2 screws at bottom edge of screen area (on back)
- remove 5 small rubber plugs from holes on bottom of unit
- remove 5 screws from those holes
- pull off back (no latches, etc - it just pulls right off). The back
panel containing AC input, h-hold, v-hold, v-size controls is part of
the chassis, it does not come off with the back. However the back is
still held on by the power switch (on the Monitor IIc anyway). remove
one screw to separate the switch subassembly from the monitor back,
and you can now remove the back entirely. It's a good time to give it
a bath and scrub the dust out of the louvers with a toothbrush.
The bottom of the PCB is protected by a metal chassis. You will need
to remove 4 screws at the bottom of the monitor (looking into the back
of the monitor, they are all below the PCB, and 2 earth lead screws,
one on each side of the chassis towards the front. That will release
the mainboard. Various cables are held to the chassis with a plastic
tie, which will need to be opened in order to get enough slack on
those wires. One of them is the HV line!
If you are EXTREMELY CAREFUL you can pull the chassis out far enough
to remove 4 screws that attach the back plastic piece to the chassis,
which will allow you to get just enough access to the PCB to resolder
the RCA jack.
To do this it will be easiest to put the monitor on its side.
Just had to do this yesterday to clean all the pots in my Monitor IIc
(it's so nice not having those scratchy pots any more... aaaah!).
