So I posted this in comp.sys.mac.programmer and alt.comp.os.mac (pretty
quiet) and looked for some other usenet groups and really nothing, and this
is somewhat scary.
A couple of days back I visited my nearest computer recycler who gets no
vintage computers anymore in a city of 700,000 people. Our second hand
stores don't either. They send all donators to the recyclers. I guess spring
cleanups have taken their toll. Our recyclers in turn send the computers to
Asia to be chopped into gold, and silver, and other shreds.
Someone used the analogy of building the railroad at lunch earlier in the
day when talking about how we all built the computer industry especially
through the '80's and '90's. Now the railroad only needs maintenance and the
coolies are all but forgotten:)
We can argue details and dates and so forth but the bottomest of lines is
that I may have left some of this a little too late.
