Actually, precious few Applicards ever had the UART piggyback. I own one of perhaps a half-dozen in existence. The vast majority relied on the trusty SuperSerial card on the host. So, you had data going from host to slave processor, followed by screen output going back the other way. It was still much faster than the Softcard.

The CardZ180 did have on-board UARTs, since the 64180/Z180 has two built-in.
