Electronics Arts didn't support the DC which was pretty lethal
for an all-around platform in the western hemisphere, Namco
quickly abandoned the platform (after the terrific Soul Calibur!)
and Square never even tested the waters. The DC isn't really
known as a RPG platform, too.
Lots of western games were conversions, too, and not many
exclusives were published.
The DC had a good year and a half - at least in the USA and
with the critics - with some great titles, especially from Sega.
But long before they announced that they will abandon the
the support (and hardware development altogether) it was
clear that the DC was doomed.

True - and even majors like Square with their premium titles
like the Final Fantasy series sucked at it as they didn't put
much effort into it.
That's why international video standards (like 1080p) are so
important.
