That's because he was able to obtain an unprotected master disk of the PC 
version.

The original 1979 version did indeed have cassette support, but DB said 
that few people knew about it. That's not surprising, when you consider 
that anyone able to afford Visicalc (it was something like $500, correct?) 
should have also been able to afford a disk drive.
