In the 90's I ran ProDOS 8 on a homemade ROMDisk card using only 2x
27512 chips on my first Apple II compatible system (my card had 4
sockets but I never got around to burning the 3rd and 4th chips). It
was wonderful having Merlin 16 available within seconds on a totally
silent system.

Like the 64KB /RAM disk on a 128KB IIe/IIc/IIgs, a small solid state
disk drive can be very useful on an Apple II.
