The connector on the computer does have +5V, but the expansion box
provides its own +5V supply from an external source. It also derives
-5V from the +12V line.

Ah. What threw me was the diagram for the expansion chassis shows nothing connected there. Thanks for the update!

Yes, it's an interesting convention--"no wire" means bussed to the
other sockets.
