So I have unpacked my old GS after many years and would like to get some
of the games I used to like on it, specifically Alien Mind, Gnarly Golf,
Zany Golf. After many hours of configuring my iMac G5 and old Color
Classic, I can download the games, ethernet transfer from the iMac OSX
to Color Classic with sys 7.6.1, can ProDOS format an 800k floppy,
however everything I downloaded seems to be too large to fit on a 800 k
floppy.
Next I was apple to network the GS running 6.0.1 to the Color Classic
and transfer the files from the Mac to the GS hardrive, thought I was
home free....now the GS doesn't recognize the files, .sea files won't
open and can't open .shk files as I can't get GSShrinkIt to unpack on
the GS either. I'm sure I have file type/creator problems but don't know
how to solve this. Can I fix this on the Mac side or have to find a
filetype working program for the GS? How would I get that on the GS
anyway as I can't seem to work with the basic filetypes yet?
Anyone have a good explanation on how to start? Seems like I need to
start at some basis, get .sea to work, then .shk or some other
combination. I'm not ready to go through the emulator methods yet and
don't have much patience left to work through serial comm methods. I've
read tons of info on the web but can't get the basic files I need to
work to really get started.
Thanks for any help.
More info. I seem to be stuck in the loop described in the faq where I
can't get a gsk, sea, or shk since I don't have the right software to
start with on my GS. I tried the TCHANGE.BIN route, no go, so I'm doing
something wrong. Not knowing exactly what the TCHANGE instructions all
mean, I copied basic on my GS to the same floppy that contains
TCHANGE.BIN, ran basic, try BLOAD TCHANGE.BIN, TTXT, A2048 (are those
spaces after the commas?), the result is always FILE TYPE MISMATCH,
making me think the TCHANGE.BIN I loaded onto the floppy (downloaded
from web then onto a ProDOS disk from the Mac) is not a text file as
it's supposed to be. Command-I on TCHANGE.BIN in GSOS says Kind:Unknown.
Back to the file type circle....
Well, all I can think of now is to dig through old Apple Developer CDs I
found and see if there is anything, but I doubt my CD600e will work on
the GS.
SEA is Self-Extracting-Archive. Boot up GS/OS and
run it to extract.
