The really hoaky thing here in comparing it to electric consumption is
with electric consumption, something has to generate that electricity.
It's a carefully hedged balance. If everyone suddenly unplugged
refrigerators in an entire city, the grid would probably crash.
Similarly to when on hotter summer days the load from the extra
air conditioners pulls faster than an older transformer can push.
This would not happen with the internet. Everything is built to
run at 100Mbps, which is way higher than they can push it, YET!
If everyone stopped downloading suddenly.. nothing would happen.
Well, yes, but, people who get leached would be happier. ;-)
The average cable and DSL infrastructure is able to handle the load.
I wish PECO, my electric company, would keep up with their system.
The capping and charging is a profit center move. Nothing more,
nothing less. It's not a "fairness to everyone" deal.
Oh, don't get me started. I have a long list of, "Let's charge
them for absolutely nothing" stuff. Like ATM fees. The ATM's bank,
my bank, and now the place where the ATM is located can charge?
I THINK NOT!!!!!!! No wonder they don't want me to come inside.
Just like email is free in your phone but text messages can cost 20
cents. Whats a text message? Damn near the same thing as an email,
with a different address and a drop dead stupid client to view it.
That's true, they are virtually identical. The one difference I'm
sure of is, that you can't send or receive pictures in a text msg.
Which makes it the one that should be free, no?
