The IIgs was released September 15, 1986. It was intended to compete
with personal computers such as the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST at
the time of its release and was somewhat popular with schools, but
Apple failed to promote and update the IIgs, preferring to focus on
the Macintosh instead. The IIgs lacked compelling features over its
competitors and increasingly fell behind other personal computers over
its lifetime, and Apple ceased production of it in December 1992.

The GS couldn't compete with the C64 never mind the Amiga, the Amiga was
way way better.

Then in March 1987, Commodore released the Amiga 500 and blew the GS away!!
