Have tried Alex's code on the Altera DE1, and also been
porting Gary Becker's code over to the Digilent Nexys2 board.
Both seem relatively stable. Haven't done any side-by-side
comparisons, though it would be interesting.
I've built a 65816 expander board to plug into the DE1 board:

Have got it running some simple code from the Flash and SRAM,
though haven't yet managed to get it to replace the 6502 core
in Alex's code. Will need some architecture changes due to the way
the 1Mhz clock is simulated (by using every 28th cycle of a 28MHz
clock)
Would really like to get an FPGA GS emulation working!
Not much free time at the moment :^{
More familiar with GB's code, only since I have had more time
to play around with it.
Find the Altera tools easier to work with, and generally less buggy
than their Xilinx counterparts (just my personal opinion).
