It's just a personal preference. With the Catalog
window the only one, you can give us the choice of
viewing it in columns, rather than scrolling through
a big directory.

Speaking of the Output panel, how about setting a monospaced font for
that? Looks like you're leaving it up to the defaults, but all your
text assumes fixed width, and mine isn't.
