Just wondering what everyone thought. The RetroMacCast group and podcast (http://retromaccast.ning.com/) does that, but with a Mac twist. I guess I'm kinda over it, because I see the wild fluctuation all the time on eBay, and it doesn't surprise me any more. It's not particularly reflective of "value" or "market," it's just kinda arbitrary - who asks for what and who is [smart|dumb] enough to take 'em up on it.
It's true that if the size of the "market" for an item is small enough, the variance of the price can be extreme. I'm sure the same is true in other markets where buyers' and sellers' knowledge of the market varies widely. Even fraud cannot be ruled out... But on average, with a dozen or so transactions on similar items to pool, the median eBay price is probably our best guide. Not only because it is undoubtedly the largest market for Apple II items, but also because it's the most accessible to the largest number, and therefore the most useful. -michael AppleCrate II: An Apple II "blade server"!
