Okay,
Stump the Ranger time, in the opposite way.
I recall having this issue before - it's been lots of years and too
many lost notes ago, since I did Super Serial Cards and BBSs, Modems,
ACOS, etc. ;-)
Ya hook up a SSC with it set to 300 baud, you get SD only blinking.
Nothing echos.
It's all setup to the default 8n1, echo on, 300 baud (or 2400), 9600
even..

Straight through cable - it's a "Hayes Stack Smartmodem 300"
Basically, sending an init string gets you some activity with the
modem- but nothing returns to the SSC.
Flipping the jumper over to "Terminal" renders nothing at all- so it's
not cable voodoo.
I recall having this before, and having not messed with the stuff
since the IIgs came out since the inbuilt ports were a bit more fun to
mess with especially with the advent of the faster HST couriers.
So, looking all over creation, other than generic SSC docs, I can't
find much of anything on setting up the SSC. Even the GBBS docs - that
I thought had dip switch examples, just incase they were different,
doesn't have any.
I'm recalling that when setting up the SSC, even though it was all
software controllable it still had to all like each other at power up.
